ANWAR ROBINSON earned his B.A. in Music Education in 2001 from Westminster
Choir College,
Princeton, NJ, where he trained classically as a tenor
under Dr. Scott J. McCoy. While in
college, Robinson became the keyboardist/musical director for Patti's
Kitchen, a pilot for Patti LaBelle's cooking show
[Food Network] and was a founding member of A.R.T. of SOUL, an R&B group
under the direction of world renowned songwriter/producer, Joshua Thompson.
Robinson’s professional performances
and recordings include serving as soloist in the recording of "Saved"
and as vocal hook/refrain with Reverend Run of Run D.M.C. (Joseph Simmons, Sr.)
and Layzie Bone (of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony) on the
track, "His Love Will Never Die.”
Anwar was featured as a member of the Christmas Choir for the Emeril Live 2003 Christmas Special. He would later return to the show as a
guest with Aretha Franklin in April 2006.
That same year, Robinson recorded an album of cover songs entitled,
"The Truth (About Love)", "The Truth II", and also “InSPIRATION”,
a collection of inspirational songs composed by Reverend Nolan Williams,
Jr. In October 2008, Anwar performed his
original piece, "Chosen" for the opening ceremony of the American
Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast
Cancer five-mile walk in Central Park. In late 2009, Anwar joined many Broadway
Notables in a salute to Michael Jackson in "DON'T STOP TIL YOU GET ENOUGH:
Broadway Salutes The King of Pop" at New York City's legendary Birdland.
In 2004, Robinson successfully auditioned for Season Four of American Idol in Washington,
DC. He proceeded to the top
twelve, but was voted off after his performance of Earth Wind and Fire's
"September". Only six contestants remained after Robinson's
departure. He went on to tour with the
top ten contestants of Season Four and sang for over 500,000 people in over 40
cities in the United States
and Canada,
and also participated in "Idols in Concert". Robinson’s Film and Theatre credits include
"Collins" in the 2007-2008 National/International Tour of RENT,
as "Raymond Tyler, Jr." in the musical Invisible Life, and as
“Owen” in Maurice Jamal’s The Ski Trip 2:
Friends and Lovers. More, in 2008,
Robinson portrayed “Jesus” in the Syracuse Stage production of Godspell. Robinson
continues his work as a Jr. High Music teacher in the Elizabeth/West Orange
school district in New Jersey,
and as a recording artist/arranger.
